Itgeltugs Erdenebat is from Khuvsgul Province, Mongolia, and graduated from Delgermurun Complex School.
He is deeply interested in environmental studies, sustainable development, and public policy.
Growing up in Mörön, a provincial town affected by waste and limited access to public spaces, he became motivated to explore how community participation and research can contribute to environmental improvement. During high school, he contributed to Student Street, the first youth-led public space project in his city.
The initiative brought together students, local officials, and residents to turn an unused area into a community park with sports fields, benches, and a waste management system.
It became a model for how civic participation can create long-term environmental and social change at the local level.
He also contributed to the Eco-Friendly Child project, developed in cooperation with Baruth City, Germany.
The program focused on environmental education and waste reduction, organizing workshops and campaigns for students. Through this initiative, young people learned about sustainability, environmental rights, and public responsibility.
In the summer before graduating from high school, Itgeltugs participated in a government-requested environmental research project under professors from the National University of Mongolia. The study analyzed coal mining and its environmental impact in Western Mongolia.
Later, as a student researcher, he joined several other projects under professors from the National University of Mongolia and the New Mongol Institute of Technology, including research on radon levels and health risks in Ulaanbaatar housing, and a climate–agriculture feasibility study assessing wheat cultivation in Western provinces, scheduled for publication in the NUM Scientific Journal in 2025.
He has also contributed to sanitation and groundwater studies focused on pit latrines in ger districts, analyzing how inadequate infrastructure affects soil and water quality. In addition to research, Itgeltugs contributed to Amgalan Delkhii (“Peaceful Earth”), a children’s environmental education program broadcast on Mongolian National Television (MNB). Within this program, he took part in the Medlegt Durlagdsad (“Those Who Love Knowledge”) segment, which shares scientific and environmental insights with young audiences across the country.
Through these experiences, Itgeltugs has combined environmental studies with community work and media outreach.
His involvement reflects a belief that sustainable development begins with participation, awareness, and local action. He aims to continue his studies in environmental and public policy fields to contribute to cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities in Mongolia.
